POSITION DETAILS 
Job Title: Digital Champion Officer
Salary:  £26,520

Contract Type: Fixed-term for 5 months

Hours of Work Position: 35 hours per week

Role Responsibilities & Purpose

Responsible for increasing the number of Bolton residents who have digital skills.

The project aims are to reduce the number of residents without basic digital skills, improving understanding of the barriers to digital connectivity and to increase the percentage of residents to aspire to become highly digitally skilled. This will be achieved through innovative engagement with potential users, key agencies, innovation of new digital events and partnership collaboration.

Key Duties & Tasks

  • Work closely with the Bolton Digital Inclusion Steering Group to deliver the outputs and outcomes included in the Digital Champions Project
  • Design, plan and deliver engagement workshops to engage with and identify residents needs and aspirations
  • Provide access to digital drop ins and mobile technology to engage the community
  • Deliver digital skills sessions from basic to more advanced levels
  • Identify partnerships with local providers for adult and community learning courses
  • Organise and deliver focused themed digital events to showcase and inform residents about useful applications and digital resources available, including health and wellbeing, ESOL, job seeking, access to events and learning
  • Signpost residents to further learning to improve everyday digital skills, qualifications, apprenticeships, and job opportunities
  • Recruitment and training of ‘Digital Champions’, learning ambassadors across the borough operating via a range of agencies
  • Engagement with local employers to advise curriculum design of learning programmes and to extend the involvement of employers to raise the aspiration of residents to work in the digital sector
  • Develop a directory of Digital Drop ins – to offer of free Wi-Fi, ICT equipment use and digital champion support
  • Support community organisations with digital inclusion through the Bolton partnership
  • Facilitate greater community engagement and cohesion by bringing together harder to reach / newly identified members of our community
  • Encourage community participation and work to minimise social isolation via use of digital resources
  • Commission research and engage with a wide range of partners to improve understanding of the barriers to digital inclusion in Bolton
  • Provide support and guidance to the Digital Inclusion Assistant

You will be a motivated & flexible individual who thrives on finding solutions for customers

You will have experience in a training or learning environment preferably with experience designing and delivering learning and training for a diverse range of people.

You are skilled in building excellent partnerships with key agencies and working as part of a complex team.

A current driving license, use of car for work and willingness to travel throughout Bolton and surrounding area.

The Role

We are looking to recruit one key worker with the skills and experience of working with complex individuals to support the delivery of the programme across Greater Manchester.

You will need to be passionate about helping others, be able to work in an innovative and creative style and want to improve the lives and opportunities of the people we are supporting. This will also include managing a caseload and working from locations throughout Greater Manchester. Issues that people experience will range from debt and financial hardship, homelessness, domestic abuse, physical health, mental well being and alcohol and drug dependency – and many more besides

You will be employed to work solely on the Motiv8 programme. Your position is funded by the European Union, through the European Social Fund (2014-2020) and the National Lottery Community Fund through the Building Better Opportunities Programme.

Reporting to: Team Manager

Key Work Objectives:

  1. To carry out your role and live the Starts with you values in a way that leads to increasing levels of internal and external customer satisfaction.
  2. Manage and monitor a caseload of participants mobilising action plans and agreed outcomes to meet deadlines and targets in line with the programme and ESF guidance.
  3. To provide a flexible and holistic support service to participants and maintain regular contact with them to continually assess their support needs ensuring positive engagement with statutory and non-statutory services.
  4. To develop relationships with key partners and stakeholders to secure successful outcomes.
  5. To develop and deliver one to one and group interventions across the Motiv8 project to maximise opportunities to participants.
  6. Ensure accurate case files are maintained for the participant journey and auditing purposes in a timely manner in accordance with ESF regulations.
  7. To be a pro-active member of the team; continually seeking to improve and develop your own skills and the performance of the team. Seek to improve processes, keeping value for money as a focus. Operate within and comply with our policies, procedures and values at all times.

Motiv8 supports people aged over 25 across Greater Manchester who need support to get their lives back on track – whether they are experiencing issues with health, alcohol, drugs, domestic violence, debt, homelessness or other challenges. The programme supports those who are under-represented in the labour market.
