Job Title: Digital Champion Officer
Salary:  £26,520

Reports To: Support Services Manager
Contract Type: Fixed-term for 5 months

Hours of Work Position: 35 hours per week

Role Responsibilities & Purpose

Responsible for increasing the number of Bolton residents who have digital skills.

The project aims are to reduce the number of residents without basic digital skills, improving understanding of the barriers to digital connectivity and to increase the percentage of residents to aspire to become highly digitally skilled. This will be achieved through innovative engagement with potential users, key agencies, innovation of new digital events and partnership collaboration.

Key Duties & Tasks

  • Work closely with the Bolton Digital Inclusion Steering Group to deliver the outputs and outcomes included in the Digital Champions Project
  • Design, plan and deliver engagement workshops to engage with and identify residents needs and aspirations
  • Provide access to digital drop ins and mobile technology to engage the community
  • Deliver digital skills sessions from basic to more advanced levels
  • Identify partnerships with local providers for adult and community learning courses
  • Organise and deliver focused themed digital events to showcase and inform residents about useful applications and digital resources available, including health and wellbeing, ESOL, job seeking, access to events and learning
  • Signpost residents to further learning to improve everyday digital skills, qualifications, apprenticeships, and job opportunities
  • Recruitment and training of ‘Digital Champions’, learning ambassadors across the borough operating via a range of agencies
  • Engagement with local employers to advise curriculum design of learning programmes and to extend the involvement of employers to raise the aspiration of residents to work in the digital sector
  • Develop a directory of Digital Drop ins – to offer of free Wi-Fi, ICT equipment use and digital champion support
  • Support community organisations with digital inclusion through the Bolton partnership
  • Facilitate greater community engagement and cohesion by bringing together harder to reach / newly identified members of our community
  • Encourage community participation and work to minimise social isolation via use of digital resources
  • Commission research and engage with a wide range of partners to improve understanding of the barriers to digital inclusion in Bolton
  • Provide support and guidance to the Digital Inclusion Assistant

You will be a motivated & flexible individual who thrives on finding solutions for customers

You will have experience in a training or learning environment preferably with experience designing and delivering learning and training for a diverse range of people.

You are skilled in building excellent partnerships with key agencies and working as part of a complex team.

A current driving license, use of car for work and willingness to travel throughout Bolton and surrounding area.
